KARACHI: KE Electric (KE) has achieved a major milestone in its plan to increase renewable energy. The company received 15 bids for its first 150MW solar project at Winder and Bela in Balochistan. This project is part of KE’s goal to use 30% renewable energy by 2030.
Earlier this year, KE began a bidding process for several renewable projects after getting approval from NEPRA. Over the next 5 years, KE plans to add 1300MW of renewable energy.
KE’s CEO, Syed Moonis Alvi, praised the response, highlighting the trust in KE and Pakistan’s economic potential. He also mentioned KE’s investment of nearly US$2 billion in infrastructure to ensure reliable electricity for Karachi.
Shahab Qader Khan, Chief Strategy Officer, noted that these projects align with KE’s vision and NEPRA’s directives to focus on local and green energy sources. He hopes these projects will inspire others to join in and boost the country’s economic progress.
KE invited experienced local and international companies to participate in the bidding process, and 15 bids were received. KE is also working on other projects, including a 270MW solar project in Sindh and a 220MW hybrid project.
