Apple Readying ‘Biggest AirPods Launch to Date’; Fourth-Gen Models to Arrive Later This Year: Report
According to recent reports, Apple is preparing to revamp its AirPods lineup with the launch of fourth-generation models. These new models are expected to replace the existing entry-level Apple earphones and are said to represent the biggest AirPods launch to date. The upcoming models will come with several upgrades, including a new design and improvements to the charging case.
New Design and Improvements
The fourth-generation AirPods models, codenamed B768(E) and B768(M), will feature a new design and improvements to their fit. Additionally, they will come with USB Type-C charging cases. One of the two models is also rumored to have active noise cancellation (ANC), which was previously only available on AirPods Pro models. This means that users can expect a more immersive audio experience with reduced background noise.
Find My Speakers Feature and ANC
The mid-tier AirPods, codenamed B768(M), will not only feature ANC but also a “Find My Speakers” feature in the case. This will help users locate their missing earphones more easily. These new additions demonstrate Apple’s commitment to enhancing the user experience and providing innovative features.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman confirmed the upcoming launch of the fourth-generation entry-level AirPods. He also mentioned that Apple suppliers are preparing for the “biggest AirPods launch to date.” Overseas vendors are expected to start production on the new line of truly wireless stereo (TWS) earphones, with an estimated production volume of 20 million to 25 million units.
Production is set to begin in May at Goertek and Luxshare, and the official release of the fourth-generation AirPods is planned for September or October. This timeline aligns with Apple’s usual product release schedule, ensuring that consumers can look forward to getting their hands on the latest AirPods models later this year.
Future Plans and Updates
While the fourth-generation AirPods are generating excitement, Apple is already looking ahead to future releases. It is rumored that a new AirPods Pro model will be introduced in 2025. This model is expected to feature a new earbud design, an H3 chip, and further improvements to active noise cancellation (ANC).
In addition to hardware updates, Apple is also set to bring software updates to its wireless earphones line with the release of iOS 18. The AirPods Pro may receive a hearing aid mode to assist users with impaired hearing, along with a hearing-test feature. These updates showcase Apple’s commitment to accessibility and ensuring that their products cater to a wide range of users.
Pricing and Availability
Currently, Apple sells the second-generation AirPods for Rs. 12,900 and the third-generation model for Rs. 19,900. The AirPods Pro, which was refreshed at Apple’s ‘Wonderlust’ event in September last year, is priced at Rs. 24,900 and now comes with a USB Type-C port on the charging case.
With the impending launch of the fourth-generation AirPods, consumers can expect even more options to suit their audio needs. Whether it’s the entry-level models or the premium AirPods Pro, Apple continues to innovate and provide users with high-quality audio experiences.
